‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt prepared to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has gone by that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started spending more time together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the film, adding that he cannot recall "one day without mirth".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to prevent the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" pertaining to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
